Did you have a favourite place where you liked to stop on the way to or from camp?
There's Hewitt's Dairy Bar in Hagersville. Delicious ice cream with lots of flavour choices!
Also, maybe a bit more out of the way, but still a destination for some was Port Dover, and while there, a trip to The Arbor for a hot dog and some "Glow" (their exclusive juice drink).
With people coming from all different directions, I'm sure there were a lot of places people stopped.
Let us know your favourite place to stop along the way.

Dale and Nancy Haskell always stopped at the arbour on there way home from camp.We still have the drive down there now.Go have a hot dog and then over for a ice cream.Dale says he has been going for 67 years for a hot dog and a golden glow.We were just talking about Dover with all the fish flies one year when they were at camp and went into Dover. There were so many on the hill by the parking lot that they couldnt get up it that they were slipping on them like ice.Does anyone remember the lovely Fish Flies?

i only live 20 minutes away from Camp Selkirk, so I didn't really have anywhere to stop along the way! But I do remember everyone from further away always thought it was so wonderful to make a side trip to Port Dover. How come everyone loved the "Glo" drink? I could never understand that!
Ah, yes.... foot-long and a golden glow at the arbor!
The place we always stopped (seeing as we were travelling to/from Stoney Creek) was the dairy bar at Rainham Centre - best milkshakes around!! It was also only about 10mins from camp, so it was a fav place to go when I was on staff as well.
when i was a kid we stopped at Hewitt's Dairy (cuz we lived in 'the Hammer'!). When i was a teenager and met my Cambridge living boyfriend (now husband), we did sometimes go to Port Dover - not being a hotdog eater or a sickly sweet drink drinker, i was kinda 'meh' about the whole experience! When our girls went to camp, we'd stop at Tim Horton's in Brantford on the way there. . or Hagersville on the way back!
What was the name of the place in Caledonia...right on the corner. It had a big tree over it, and served great Mozza burgers!!! Give that with fries and a milk shake! Oh yeah!
The Oasis is in Caledonia thats were we always stopped. They had the best milk shakes, made the old fashion way.

ah. Poor Caledonia...it's not doing too well these days! Anyone I've talked to has said that it's a ghost town, ever since that native occupation started. I hope the Oasis is still there!
don't believe everything you hear, janine! caledonia is still booming. the occupation deal will be going on for a long time, i believe, but i think that it's just a few of the "loud" voices that like to stir up trouble and get on the news! anyway, yes, the oasis is still running - we occasionally still stop in - they DO have great burgers and shakes!
Well, my sources of information are Caledonia residents...regardless, I just hope the situation is resolved sometime soon!
yes, the Arbor was nice. The "glo" was such a hit Mona, because it was the only food item that the seagulls couldn't rip out of your hands. And, the pulp at the bottom was scrumptous!!
LOL Greg!!!
I know allot of people who would stop at Rainham Center for a shake or ice cream. I took my wife and kids there a few weeks back after we walked around the camp for a little while.
