Every year, for a number of years, the camp held a "Divisional Picnic" on July 1st (or another day if it fell on a Sunday!).
It was open to everyone, young and old. It was 'bring your own food', but the camp supplied the activities. There were games and races for the kids, swimming, and a baseball tournament. The different corps usually organized their own team for the baseball tournament. I think there have even been "staff" teams over the years.
I was on staff for the camp's 40th anniversary year (1988). I remember we made a huge sundae in a wood 'trough' for all to share, at the flag pole.
Do you have a Divisional Picnic memory?

I remember the year our Dad collapsed at the Divisional Picnic and was told by the camp nurse it was just "a stitch". Turned out to be kidney stones that kept him in the Hagersville Hospital for a few days! I can still see him walking down the driveway with Alf Graham and suddenly collapsing. Scary stuff.
I also remember a few brawls during the baseball tournament. Those were good times.
I also remember Gary French riding his bike from Cambridge to the picnic one year then spending the whole day sleeping!
I remember uncle Barry having kidney stone attack. That was the first thing that came to my mind. And Cambridge playing ball against the Indians and losing the trophy. And pretty much the same as what you said Sue.
OOPS I FORGOT MY NAME.

oh gosh, Divisional Picnic memories?! Nothing outstanding. The kids playing their games. . water balloons, egg toss, all the goodies! Bringing the frisbee, people brought their dogs, their hibachis, their coolers, their lawn chairs. . . then all the corps would stake out their 'territory'. There would be some mingling, but i always thought it was interesting to watch how people clumped in their groups!! Yeah, the baseball games, which didn't float my boat so much, but lots of ppl loved that. I just loved being at the camp! Going to the lake, seeing some of my cousins (the Rimans), seeing my divisional friends, having chats, eating outdoors. .
I have a picture of that huge sundae that we made that year! I worked at camp in '88 and have pictures, but no scanner, so none to post :-(
I always loved July 1st picnics... watching the cute boys play baseball, visiting all my camp friends... Kathy, I totally remember the corps' all clumping together, but I also remember Simcoe not having much of a group that went, so I got to mingle to my heart's content! I loved that! I'd probably still do that today!
Man, do I ever miss Camp Selkirk :-(
I remember cold KFC... Although it was probably still called Kentucky Fried Chicken at the time.
My most vivid memories of the Divisional Picnic are from when I was lifeguarding -- busiest day of the year, and the day I was most likely to have to jump in after some poor little kid who didn't realise how deep the water was until AFTER they got in...(sans parental supervision, of course)...
...between that, and junior lifeguards passing out from heat stroke...
