Awaiting the terrifying audition

I was making way through across the grounds on the first day of Junior Music Camp checking on things were when I stumbled across these fine young men outside the auditorium awaiting their audition. They seemed in good spirits, glad to be at camp and when I picked up my camera to take a shot they all wanted to be in one shot!

The year was_____? And they are_________?

Mike Berry (Guelph), Adam Pearson (Kitchener), and Evan Howie (Guelph), but I couldn't tell you the year!

Terrifying?? You know, I think I can honestly say that I can't remember ever being "terrified" by an audition...nervous, maybe, but even then, it wasn't until my National days that I really remember them at all.

The solo competition, on the other hand.....

I always found auditions terrifying!

I always went in vocal and I can't sing on my own. (probably the only kid who grew up in the Army, who never learned to play an instrument!)

With instrumental, you can always TRY to blame the instrument....

Auditions,Iuse to be sooo nervous to sing the scale at music camp.I would turn all red and get hot.And when i went to National it was worse.I would sing at all the programs and think everyone was staring at me.And every year my mom and i would practice a solo and i would never go in the competion. And besides free time was much better.

My first audition for SMC was 1990, and it was a bit terrifying for me just having moved here from Newfoundland!

I walked in the audition room only to find 3 staff bands men at the time, Ken Bailey, Alf Graham, and John Avery! It was a big deal to me!

Hey - it's my hubby! The cute one with the goggles in the middle! :) All 3 are Guelphites now. Fun picture.
