Let's sing it again

Here’s a group shot of Senior Music Camp 1985, special guests Len Ballentine (instrumental) and Glenda Crawford (vocal) in the centre of the first row on either side of then DYS Captain Charles Young.

Does anyone remember Captain Charlie Young's insistence that the Divisional Commander of the day join in on the actions of a song he was leading for the final program of Junior Music Camp? We must have sung that song 7 times...and at the end of it he would say: "Now the DC is not doing the actions...so we will sing that song again so he can join in. He didn't. A year later we had a new DYS. :)

I don't remember that, but I certainly remember hearing about it! I always wondered why the Young's didn't stay very long....

Hey J9 ... is that your brother Phil in the 3rd row 4th from the left? I also see Cindy Eden in the 2nd row 7th from the left. Bernie Doars, Mike Gleadal, and John Avery are also in the front row to the left of Len Ballantine. I really don't recgonize anyone else, this was pre-Selkirk days for me.

Oh and back row ... first person on the left, that sure looks like it could be Richard Graham?

Let's see, yes, Phil is there, and that's Colin Westover beside him. Yes, that's Richard Graham, and that's Dean Westover & Don Rayment in the back row. Anneke and Pieter Van Heil are sitting on the ground in front, so are Sean and Jeremy Avery. Joanne Bassett is in the front row, too. I think I see Krista Van Heil in there...

Just looked again -- Lorne Barry is in the back row beside Dean, Ian Cooper is in the middle there, the third row starts out with Bern Noakes and Matthew Burditt, Debbie O'Seil (now Robinson-Cooke) is in there, and Jeff Reynolds is the curly redhead in the front row

Mark--You'd probably know more people, if they were pointed out to you. There's a few I don't remember, but I think I remember most...I just don't remember who was still around the division when you were.

Janine, is Don your cousin? He was actually one name I couldn't remember!

Yes, Don is my cousin. (My Uncle Paul's son) He lives in Mississauga, and finally got married last year to a girl from Brazil.

What on earth is Richard Graham doing? Colin Westover is also making some sort of gesture.

This was clearly my last year at JMC because a lot of my friends are in this picture, but I'm not. I think I started SMC in '86.

I could name most of the people, but there are a few I'm stumped on. Lynn, we'll have to get this one out the next time we're together and see how many we can name.

Hey, check out the "frizzy" hair on Jeff Reynolds (1st row, 4th from left), the best junior band leader I ever had at Argyle.
My how the times have changed.

P.S. Anybody remember how the faculty used to torture us by cooking steak at 10pm on a Friday night, 50-80 ft. from the oldest boy's cabin??? How Cruel. Remember Jesus' words: "What you've done for the least of these....."

Yeah, Jeff was great! I'm not sure where he is now...Glen Reynolds or Glenda Crawford might know...

Yes...I remember the Young's getting moved that summer. The DC who thoroughly enjoyed those actions was Clyde Moore. This man's voice was so low, it vibrated the stage.
I believe the song was, "It's No Longer I That Liveth."

I am pretty sure this picture is the year Jr and Sr. Music Camp were put together. I am standing beside Trevor Dix and Debbie O'siel. Nicole Kinghorn is there and I also see Dan Peters. Those were some good times. I really remember every year at camp the boys raiding the girls cabins.

No, junior & senior weren't combined that year. I can say for sure, because I was runner-up honour student in 1985 at junior music camp, and I'm not in that photo. I remember JMC very well that year, because my Dad came home from the CSB Australia trip half-way through the week, and came up to Selkirk to surprise me!

I didn't think it was combined either, because my sister would have been in the picture. We always went together. She's a year younger then me, and that was my first year of senior and her last year of junior. The only year we didn't go together.

Wasn't age 12 an option year? You could go to either camp at that age? I think she would have still been 12 that summer, because her birthday is in the fall.

Yes, you could go to either when you were 12 - I went to both in 1986.

Oh hey, that's me! (with my sweet Cabbage Patch Kid..and my brother was actually at camp!)
My mom (right behind my in the awesome geometric clothing) was on faculty for Bible or something, so I got to hang out as a Faculty kid - and it was so fun!
Janine, you're right - Krista is in there, too...dressed like Miami Vice! :)
Man, this site makes feel so bittersweet!

Oh, and my cousin Bruce Barker is there, too. 2nd row, 2nd from left...

this photo is great! too funny! brings back even MORE memories! Funny thing is, I hardly recognized myself! hehe!
I know I should know more of the names, but here's who I've come up with...
Warren Preece, Lorne Barry, Dean Westover, Jennifer, Cathy Ratcliffe, Carolyn, Matthew Burditt, Phil Rayment, Colin Westover, Trevor Dix, Christine Plank, Debbie O'Seil, Nicole Kinghorn, Krista VanHeil, Wendy Brooks, Sharron Jones, Ian Cooper, Cindy Eden, Lori, Kim Powell, Laurie Pollett, Lynn Haskell, Karen, Sharon Jones, Anita Pilgrim, Mona Cooper, Sharon Avery, Carolyn Davies, Joanne Bassett, Pam Westover, Bernie Doars (?), Mike Gleadall & John Avery
I can't believe I forget some of the names, but the worst is remembering last names. So many of these people I haven't seen in years! Anyone got anymore names for the list?! (other than the ones meantioned in earlier postings?!)

I wish I could see the picture while leaving a comment, I know I saw Dave Stickland and Gwen and her husband (can't remember his name??) from St. Catharines, I'm not sure but that might be standing next to Carolyn holding Martin...he would be the right age
