The End of an Era

The Senior Music Camp 2004 final program was the last official event to take place at camp. I hadn't been to a final program in years, so I decided I'd go.

It was a typical music camp closing program with performances, awards, chorus singing and inside jokes about events that took place over the course of the week, that left the visitors puzzled and the camp participants laughing.

One highlight not typical of a program was a slide show of camps over the years. Many of us viewed it through teary eyes. There was also a final flag lowering ceremony.

I've heard several rumours over the last few years. Does anyone know the true fate of the camp?

Thank you Camp Selkirk for 56 years of memories!

Camp Selkirk was sold to another church group who will continue to operate camp programs there. They have decided apparently to keep the name.

Although I never attended Camp Selkirk as a student (my student days were in the maritimes at Scotian Glen) I was at that final program as a part of faculty....however, I did that PowerPoint presentation and I think I might still have it...if interested I could provide some of those pictures for this blog.

Hey Greg they took the old Auditorium down. From the time Rob&Danny Millar worked there it had been rotting. They were going to redo it in 1980.But they never did it.Danny kept saying it was dangerous with all the jumping around it could cave in.

When did it get taken down? The last time I was there in 2001 it was still standing? I know in my time we had an engineer in to look at it, and it was deemed to be structurally sound.

I seem to remember someone's foot going through the floor during a roudy rendition of "King of Kings" Senior Music camp early 90's. Anyone else remember that?

Yes, I believe his initials are J.A., and he's one of the newest members of the CSB...

....I think it was the beginning of the end for that poor old auditorium....

oy yeah!
That was hillarious. Maybe not so much for him. Sorry J.A. but it was funny.

Ah, Rob & Danny Millar eh?! No wonder the auditorium rotted away. They probably did something to it. Ha, Ha. But, oh the memories I had in that auditorium. And the music stuff was cool too. I remember 3 1/2 hour solo competition nights, where we had to sit totally quiet and still until the judges finished marking. Now, can you picture me staying quiet for ANY length of time.....I don't think so!!!

Sue-Ann, if you had a copy of that power point I'd LOVE to see it... I was at that final program, but I had a baby with me and ended up walking him around so much that I missed the slide-show. I remember everyone being teary-eyed and getting so sentimental and I missed it! FIGURES!!! Anyway, I'd LOVE to see it! (by the way, since I don't have your direct email, here's mine, and anyone from camp who remembers me and would like to get in touch, feel free to use it! buzzybee@sympatico.ca)

I have the powerpoint presentation but have yet to figure out how to post it. I'm working on it though. We may have to post slides separately - it is just that there is many, many of them.
