Post your favourite song

It's campfire time friends. Time to post your favourite campfire song.

For me, I don't think I'll ever get over Fiona Kinghorn screaming her lungs out over "There ain't no flies on us". Maybe I didn't get it...but there isn't any singing to that song! So is it really a song?

And who can forget Greg Eden leading us in..."Second verse, little bit louder, little bit worse"

There are too many to name! Black Socks; Have you ever gone Fishing/Hunting (on a hot summer day/on a cold winter day); but I think my most vivid memory of campfire songs goes back to Junior Music Camp, with Mike Gleadal leading "Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree"

(George Washington's Bridge comes in a close second)

I can tell you that many campfire songs I learned at Selkirk have now been taught to campers in Russia and Estonia. Some of the favourites are Beatles and the Bedbugs and Say Boom Chicka Boom. My husband always knows when I am really tired because I start singing silly campfire songs. Haven't had an opportunity to teach them to any campers in Australia yet, but will get around to it someday...or at least pass them onto my two little girls. Sadly in Australia they don't have the awesome camping programs that we have in Canada. 6 summers of my life were spent working at Selkirk and I can tell you it definitely had a positive impact. Lots of great skills that I can make use of today as an officer!

"Elsie" and "Baby Shark" are among my favorites - Mikey Eden leading Elsie, and Jon Evans leading Baby Shark. Those guys were just so entertaining... and those songs really kept the campers captivated, and out of trouble!

Does anyone remember the Mom & Tots camp during which we sang Baby Shark, even though there was a Mom present who was missing a limb?! Awkward!

Definitely Nathan Downer (or occasionally Josh or James) leading "Let me see your Funky Chicken!" :) That was always a favourite of the kids in the last years of Junior Music Camp.

And, then there is The Potato Song. It's kind of a new classic. I introduced during the last summer of music camps and it seemed to be well received. It will probably be my greatest composition. ;)

Well, for all of you guys who liked Michael Eden's Elsie....you would be happy to know that he named his little girl just that...Elsie. He, too, I believe has another child. He is in England, and a SA Officer.

Yeah, Mike has a son, James who either just turned a year old or will be soon.

I think he claims that the song had nothing to do with Elsie's name choice!

Well, I love that you all remember Elsie... and I'm thinking it's the same Elsie as when I was a kid... but for me the favourite memory is of Les Dix and George Riman doing Elsie Was a Mighty Fine Cow! There was also a song we used to sing, many moons ago, called I'm Looking Over My Dead Dog Rover! I still sing it and my kids think I'm absolutley hilarious (or insane, not sure!). When I hear people telling really lame or rotten jokes I always think... "In the breadbox you must go, you must go, you must go. In the breadbox you must go. That was crummy!" Anyone remember those ones?!?!?! C'mon, I know I'm not the only one from my generation who checks out this site!!!hehe!!! Great to see some of the names on here, though, like Sharon! HOW ARE YOU?!?!?! Anyway, I always loved Camp Selkirk, and I still love singing the crazy songs I learned there! I'll always carry them with me with my fondest memories!

And who doesn't remember the old SMC Song - long before there was a Junior and Senior Camp. I can still sing it in my mind
